Controversy has erupted over whether media outlets have misled with selectively edited footage of gun advocates “heckling” the father of a Sandy Hook victim as he testified before the Connecticut legislature.
During the Monday hearings, Neil Heslin, father of victim Jesse Lewis, said to the legislators: “I ask if there is anyone who is in this room that can give me one reason or challenge this question: Why anybody in this room needs to have done of these assault-style weapons or military weapons or high capacity clips?” He then paused and said: “Not one person can answer the question.”
A few members of the audience saw this as a moment to respond, shouting things like “the Second Amendment shall not be infringed,” which prompted a legislative official to reiterate the rule of no interruptions during testimony.
