A former Pell City schoolteacher was sentenced today for rape. Heather Whitten, formerly a 5th grade teacher at Williams Intermediate School, was indicted on three counts of second degree sexual abuse for having sexual relations with a boy who was between the ages of 12 and 16.

Whitten was arrested in February on the charge of second degree rape. Today Judge Jim Hill sentenced Whitten to a year and a day in prison. She'll spend the rest of her five year split sentence on supervised probation.
